On the squirrel front, I spent a little while checking out the CDC info on squirrels and rabies. I needed to know if my new friendship would be allowed to bloom in a cold, harsh world that takes such a dim view of interspecies love, and especially those loves that contain rabid animals.
So after establishing that it was fairly safe, I went back to visit my new buddy and I named him Randy2. Randy1 is a long story, and not a very interesting one either.
I gave him some pecans and he and his friends fought over them. I took pictures of him, and solemnly promised to make him a star. We've really worked things out since the other day, when he attacked me in the projects.
On the school front, I think I got a 96 on my Pysch exam yesterday.

I found a baby squirrel almost two years ago. All of these sites keep on saying not to give them any recipe with karo syrup or cow's milk. Well, when I did research for recipes, that's exactly what they told me to give him. All the sites say it will kill them, but my baby is two years old now and that's all I ever gave him
Brandi | September 21, 2004 5:37 PMHello, I found a small squirrel. It must have fallen out of the tree. What do I do? What should I feed it? Do I need to keep it a certain tempature? I has all it's hair so it can't be a baby. Is there some place that will take the squirrel in?
Angela | September 8, 2004 4:06 PMI have two German Shorthair Dogs so I don't think I can take care of it to long, the dogs are going crazy!! Thanks for any help.

Z | September 4, 2004 6:59 AMi found a squirl at work, he musta fell out of his home. flys were attacking him... at first i thought he was dead or diseased but he was just helpless i took him home and have been feeding him cat formula he seems to like it from a small bottle. he looks to be healthy but his eyes arent open yet he blinks them shut but hasnt opened them. I would suggest feeding like 3-4times a day but remember they are small so they wont eat THAT much. i dont think you will need to force them to eat once they get hungry just get a drop in their mouth then try to get them to suck the bottle... Mine seems to have grown attached to being held, since ive been home he will only stop crawling around if im holding him. once i pick him up (in his little blanket) he lays down and falls asleep.. i think squirls are very social so they will need a lot of attention if trying to keep as a pet
josh b | August 24, 2004 2:38 PMMy squirel seems to be very young, he is still very small, and barely opens his eyes. Do you think I'll be able to keep him and how should I go about it?

J | April 12, 2004 7:51 PMI gave up on feeding the birds for now, since
the squirrls dominate my back yard. I always
give them the mixed buffet, as the rabbits and
other critters enjoy the mixed food.
I make sure they have water to drink from and
leave a large silver bowl on my patio trying
to keep it from freezing. they need water just
like we do. Do not stop feeding them suddenly.
I found one trying to carry up the tree a plastic
bag assuming he was carring it to the nest.
The bag kept falling to the ground and the squirrel went down each time to retrieve it.
janet callaghan | March 24, 2004 11:45 AMI want to help them with the nest without
interferring too much. Any sugestions?
I found the squirles but i thought i would use

andy yoast | September 12, 2003 8:46 PMi am 18 years old and my dad has a tree removal company and he has been bringing home newborn squirles for years,so i have become a master at raising them.right now i have 7 , from 4 different nests.the 3 oldest ones are just now starting to play and they opened their eyes 3 weeks ago . the other 4 are still pink with no hair.i feed them with a small bottle i got from the pet store.i have found that goats milk works the best (and i have tried them all). the goats milk has natural anti-bodies that keeps the squirles from getting sick and dieing. cat, dog, and cow milk do not have the anti-bodies and the squirles will eventually get sick and die. i hope i helped a little . shirleen ....lilburn,Ga

I just picked up 3 baby squirles out of the back yard that got thrown out of their nest that was in a big limb that fell from all the snow here in Colorado. just wondering the best way to feed them too. Tehy dont seem to have their eyes open yet but are bigger that expected. I guess I could call my Vet. but I need to get a good cage for them too.
Britt | March 19, 2003 9:47 AMA couple of days ago my boyfriends father was replacing his roof and went to the atic to discover two squirels who were abondoned. Thier eyes arent even open yet and they have no fur so I have them in racoon hat and a heating blanket to keep them warm. I have been feeding them cat formula. I dont really know how totake care of them, but I hera they are east to take care of, and are really great pets. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do? I have had them for two days now and they seem to be doing really well. I wasn't able to take them to a vet yet so I just wana make sure I can keep them alive.
jennie | February 26, 2003 6:36 PMI now have two baby squirles that are orphaned, and am at a loss....Not sure how to care for them. They came right into the house. You can hold them, they fall asleep on my shoulder. I am putting pecans down, water....And sent my son out to get a kitty bottle and replacement...what else, besides a good visit to the vet in the morning. They are not aggressive at all. They seem content. Can anyone help out here. I would like to keep them if it is safe.
Pam | September 15, 2002 5:27 PMOn 9-1-02 I took in an orphaned grey squirrel. It is starting to get teeth and will eat washed cashews and drink kitten milk replacement from a medicine dropper. He has started nipping at my fingers and I'm not sure if it is smelling food on my fingers or being mischevious. I say uuh, uuh and he stops. Does anyone have any advice on raising a squirrel and the detriments of such an undertaking. Can a young one be rehabbed and released before the late fall; can it fend for itself? Should I keep it until Spring? HELP!! Thanks for any help
sperky | September 8, 2002 6:31 PMI was just passing by and saw your squirrel posts. Here's a story for you. When I was on my honeymoon with the woman who is now my ex-wife (we shall from this point refer to her as THE BITCH - joke! I'll call her K) we spent part of it on a small island off of Vancouver Island in Canada. While there we lived in a romantic little cabin. Anyways, a part of her activities, outside of consummating the marriage, was feeding this squirrel that kept appearing on the deck. It wasn't something I took part in but more power to her. One night I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth when I heard her scream. I ran out to see her curled up at the headboard screaming while there was a squirrel at the other end of the bed. Yes, it was a hilarious picture. I'm laughing and trying to be serious - "Wh.. ahahha.. what's.. hahaha what's wrong?". It's ATTACKING me she said - I shoo it away and life goes on. Later, I'm reading my book in bed (yeah I did do other stuff in bed) and she's tossing nuts to the Squirrel - she forgave it I guess. Suddenly she screams and I'm "Oh lord".. laughing I put down my book and turn over to see a squirrel HANGING off her hand. It's actually bit and hanging off her hand as she's frantically shaking her hand trying to shake it off. It took me a couple seconds for it to register and then I smacked the thing off and chased it out of the place. Well it just went down hill from there with calling a vet and the fear of rabies and the idea of having to catch it - yeah like they're that distinct that I'd know the anti-christ squirrel if I saw it. Sheeshh... as well the sex dropped off... so there you go.
Ken | May 25, 2002 7:21 AMYou've named them, how rude! Who do you think you are??? They have perfectly good names of their own, although that said they're sure to have named you,
"Eak, squeek-Eak", which is Odd-long-female-red-squirrel-in-clothes", I guess? Even my French is poor so tree-rodents syntax is near imposible.
Sorry, it's been a long day, in the hot sun
Pete | May 18, 2002 5:13 PMPete
mann, if i were you i would keep one of the squirels as a pet. I've seen opossums as pets, and even owls.
(they dont make the greastest pets)
