shutitdown: livin' for the anecdote

<< shutitdown: taking one for the anecdote

could this be an update?

So I start my classes in a few days. Of course, everything is retarded right now and do I know my class schedule yet? No! Of course not! Why would I? Apparently, I get to register for classes *after* they start, and get to wrestle (or wrassle as I like to say) with the freshmen for the choice classes. Hopefully, this will be some sort of wild girl-on-girl catfight with mud and lesbians, because as we all know, most 17 and 18 year old girls are at least bi-sexual.

This brings me to my latest problem. I hate college girls. Specifically, about 18 years old. Like, freshmen and their even worse counterparts, sophomores. Seriously, I hate college girls so much. I would go so far as to say that I prefer the drunken girls gone wild sluts to the serious, liberal-arts-feminist-but-I-suck-cock-"I hate Columbus"-self-righteous race traitors. You know who I mean, the girls who are as white as, well, me, yet cry about their oppression because they just found out that they are 1/10th native american or croatian or something.

The best part about college girls is when they have "round table discussions" and sit around and talk about things like gender, class issues, race, and sex work. Now I am not going to deny it, for my first couple of weeks of liberal arts college, I sat around on my fat ass and waxed philosophical about my political pet peeves. It didn't take long, however, for me to realize that you can talk (or type) forever, and it accomplishes nothing. Raising awareness is shit--go out and do something. Not marching around in your Doc Martens, but actually put in a few hours of volunteer work now and again.

I mean, how can you take someone's opinion seriously when they have never supported themselves? Or even met the people that they are "fighting for" or making judgements about? I guess you can't blame young people for having a lack of experience, but at the same time, listening to them spout off about things they have no experience with is annoying. Painful even, at times.

My mother always tells me that whenever you get really annoyed about a certain aspect of someone's personality, it is usually because you can recognize something about it in yourself. And maybe that's it. I am embarrassed about the college girl I once was, going to Sleater-Kinney shows and pontificating about women's rights. And I am terrified to be back in a liberal arts college full time once again. But I took 5 years off from college, and now am a lean, mean, hating machine. Look out!

Is there something wrong with me????

Anyway, my classes are starting soon, so I have to get all my "fun" reading in right now while I still can. I am working 3 different books at the moment--here they are:
-Nobrow : The Culture of Marketing, the Marketing of Culture
-The Complete Stories of Evelyn Waugh
-Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Books

Okay, I'm a dork. ;)
If anyone expresses an interest, I will try and update what I am reading on a regular basis because I read a whole bunch.

Also, for the 3 people that have signed up for my notification list, should I send notifications every time I update? Or just when I do something special, like post a photo album or a great story about a retard? Post a comment, k?

Oh yeah! Happy Birthday Ruca!

Ahhh. The sanctity of human life. Firstly, I think we should start caring a little bit more about the kids we have already brought into this world before we can even consider the unborn.
And why is it that many Right to Lifers also support the death penalty (80%, stat fans)? Anyway, Ruca rules today. Well said.

I'm with Val Halen on this one.

You seem to be so proud that you had an abortion Steph. "And I know ALL about that." Why would you even say that unless you WANTED people to know you've had an abortion? Do you realize how pathetic you just sounded?

Women should have the right to have an abortion but it's still nothing to brag about if you DID have one.

Using birth control is NOT a hard thing to do. Why don't you preach that? Let people know that they can prevent themselves from having to make the decision you had to make.

Ah, abortion, a marvelous thing. On that glorious day when it was ruled that it's legal to kill subhumans because they are a nuisance I had much to rejoice. I started by going out and smashing in the back of the head of the nigger who keeps sleeping in my back yard. See, some people consider blacks to be subhuman, so I figured it was like abortion. He was a nuisance to my livelihood, and I happened to invite him to my yard one day. But that invitation turned out to be a big mistake. I knew he would just stay there forever and nag me. So since it's my yard, I had the right to smash his skull and scrape out his brains. And that's why abortion is great. But only if you do it yourself. With a coathanger. Do your own goddamn dirty work. So I cut up the colored and threw him in a trash bag and donated him to medical science. In the end, everyone benefits.

Maybe you should push birth control on everyone, something you clearly know NOTHING about.

Can we talk about Van Halen again, now?

Class issues are just something that came up in my site.

At college, I intend to push my view of womans rights - specifically the right to have an abortion on everyone.

And I know ALL about that.

It seems letting people even see a fraction of my livelihood is causing trouble. I allow maybe 40 - 50% of my "real life" to be written about online. The rest is kept private--and for a reason. so whether or not i have a job or what have you isn't necessarily discussed or posted about it.

You are right. I have absolutely no right to label you as a sex worker.

What you said did make sense. I feel like we are being exposed to sex workers with opposite experiences. Part of my research included spending time at strip clubs discussing these matters with the dancers themselves--and pretty much all of them were willing to talk and had quite a bit to say--mostly describing the empowerment they felt and the experience being a good one overall.

While my volunteer work, which is also not discussed on my site, has not been spent in women's clinics or apparently not in the same line of volunteer would you do, I do my part in other areas. I don't claim to be an expert by any means, I'm just extremely vocal. Think of my website in terms of me just thinking aloud. Sometimes thinking in writing can cause you trouble ;)

i don't think you hate the fact that the girls are freshman or sophomores. i think you are annoyed by the age of the girls. experience (usually) comes with age.

Wondergirl, I am sure you can understand where I am coming from though. Maybe you really are ghetto-ass poor, but you haven't given any indication of that. In fact, you have told me that due to your parents income you weren't eligible for any financial aid (but SLC offered you $5k, which you didn't take). This, and the fact that although I read your page regularly, I have never heard you mention working or having a job, leads me to believe that you are not poor. If you are living in the projects now, my guess is that would be classified as "slumming," because your parents *are* supporting you. You are probably taking housing away from someone thast really needs it, to be honest.

Rather than get into whose parents make more money, I think my issue is more with your position and vocalization about sex work. As I said before, it's fine and dandy if you want to call yourself a sex worker (I don't know what goes on in your member's section) but I think you were making a big leap when you said that I was one too.

Also, your position on sex workers seems to only cover those middle class white women that are doing it by choice. I totally support the legalization of prositution, but I disagree with most everything else that you said. I know *real* prostitutes. I do volunteer work that I don't talk about on here usually, and I talk to them. In the flesh. And when I read things that you write saying that these women are sex-positive g-desses, it makes me think you are clueless.

It seems that you are forming these opinions based on your stripper friends and the books you got off of amazon that were written by women with MA's that decided to go suck dick for money on a lark. Because I don't know any happy whores, and I know a bunch.

My point is just that maybe instead of going to all the points of lights marches, you should throw some time into working with these people that you are so hot to educate the world about. Believe it or not, I do understand where you are coming from. I did go to SLC, after all. But I am sure that in a couple of years you may be able to realize why people like me think freshmen and sophomores are annoying. It's really not personal. I do like you, and I think if I didn't, I wouldn't be so annoyed. If that makes any sense. ;)

Sex work actually never came up at college. When I was "accused" of partaking in sex work, it peaked my interest--and I read in to it. I wanted to know why I could be considered a sex worker and I learned more about sex worker rights and the like. I have been poor. I live in a housing project currently and I've been without a car, without food, but I've survived it. So don't make any assumptions Lina. They make an ass out of U and ME <3

I bought 2 books, Become A "Professional" Blackjack Player and a Van Halen guitar songbook.

The question is, what book did you buy?

You better believe that Van Halen fans read. I just got home from Borders to buy a book, all the while in the car blasting the great album 1984. I would say the most appealing types of literature to Van Halen fans are books about customizing our 1980's Camaro T-Top's and guides on paving over our front lawns in order to park our Camaros with style.

I hate 18 yr old girls too. In fact I hate most people, but that it due to them being ignorant pricks. On the whole. a-hahaha. No, I mean it.
Really, it is that we lose our idealism. One too many kick in the crotch will do that to a HB.
The book thing sounds cool-o. Do that. Do Van Halen fans read? I mean, I know that they must be ABLE to read, or maybe they just see DLR (hehe. crappy electric trains) and buy stuff. Anyway. I am getting away from my point which was... umm. Yeah.
Political Correctness is bullshit. Dreamed up by Hitler or Elvis or someone to serve the The Man. PC is starving your child. "P.C. she speaks impotent, sterile, naive, blind, atheist, sadist,
stiff-upper lip, first principle of her silence"
NWA said it best. Express Yourself.

And I for one think the world will be a better place for the inclusion of Lina's Monthly Book Review Club. Fuck Oprah. Fuck her with a chainsaw and drown every single self-righteous, non-working, gingham wearing, inner meet me, silent majority housewife that has sat around a table discussing how a book chosen by Oprah has changed their life.
I had a bad day at work today. :D I feel better now. I feel strong.

I'm afraid to sign up for notification. I am already hooked on infomercials, and I just know that I would end up buying Lina™ branded tote bags.

Hi there,

I guess I must be one of that special three! Ah, bless. Well I love you stories, however much the Politically Correct warning light flashes on my computer, but don't really do the whole photo thing. I can take or leave suger gliders, to be honest but love to see the odd photo in the log, as and when.

While were on the subject of S.G.s, what do they do? I mean I get walking a dog, but what's with this balancing one on a shoulder or a knee thing all about?
