My latest piece on Splice Today about that time when I worried I might be a lesbian but then it turned out I was just listening to too much Bikini Kill: Riot Grrrl, Then and Now

Yeah, I totally would have gone at your age. I did. But now? No way. I've got better things to do. Like make Korean tacos and mope.

I swear I already commented you that. It's also sort of scary how closely my life is starting to resemble yours at that age. Only I wouldn't shy away from a Gay-Straight Alliance because I'm actually starting one. And I silk-screened a Belle and Sebastian album on my shirt instead. Because I'm cool like that.
Going to go listen to the Smiths now.
Brandy | March 4, 2009 10:15 PM | ReplyThank you for portraying a glimpse of a social milieu I knew little about. When I was coming up much of the popular music was unabashedly male chauvinist ("my prince will come" sentiments along with the Stones and Led Zeppelin's honestly expressed contempt of females). I'm surprised that I didn't like Laura Nyro and Carole KIng as much as my friends did, as an antidote to all that, but I might have had those feelings myself.
